Social and Psychological Facilitation: Making expectations discussable

Before play, ask what experiences participants want and which participation or content boundaries matter. Offer a private channel and the option to decline to explain a boundary. Summarize the agreement and check that it is workable; silence is not proof of agreement.

Example: Instead of announcing that everyone wants competitive play, ask which kinds of challenge the group enjoys and what support they need to participate.

Check your understanding: What makes an agreement usable? It describes concrete expectations and a way to revisit them, rather than assuming everyone means the same thing by "fun."

Application: choose a situation where you could try this approach. Write the cue you will look for and the action you intend to take.
